When mounted on a PENTAX K-mount digital camera body, this super-telephoto lens offers a focal length of approximately 859mm in the 35mm format.
Treated with the newly developed, high-grade multi-layer HD (High Definition) coating, offering higher light transmittance with reduced reflection to deliver sharp, clear images free of flare and ghost images, even under demanding lighting conditions such as backlight.
The lens exterior is painted an elegant white to minimize heat haze generated inside the lens barrel, and a red ring is featured in the middle of the barrel to serve as a distinct, radiant symbol of the new HD (High Definition) lens series. Strap lugs are made from machined aluminum to enhance its exclusive appearance.
Incorporates smooth autofocus operations using an AF driving motor (DC motor) installed inside the lens barrel. When not installed on a listed K-mount camera body with version 1.30 or later firmware, the focus mode is automatically switched to manual.
SP (Super Protect) coating is applied to the front surface of this lens to effectively repel water and grease, and for easy wipe-off of dust.
Incorporates two ED (extra-low dispersion) optical elements to effectively reduce chromatic aberration and delivers bright, high-resolution images, even at the edges. This lens also incorporates unique telescope-type optics, which require fewer optical elements than conventional lens optics, and thus greatly improves sharpness and definition of subjects in images, particularly with distant subjects.
Features a dependable dustproof and weather-resistant construction with 29 special seals to effectively prevent the intrusion of dust and water into the lens interior. With this lens, the user is assured of a durable, reliable imaging system that performs superbly in demanding outdoor settings—even in the rain, or locations prone to water splash.
Includes a built-in, removable filter holder in the barrel. By mounting the C-PL (circular polarizing) filter (40.5mm included as an exclusive accessory) to the holder, the user can easily obtain the desired polarizing effect simply by rotating the filter using its control ring.
The Quick-Shift focus system allows for instant switching to manual focus operation after the subject is captured in focus by the camera’s AF system.
This lens is designed with a rounded diaphragm to produce a smooth, beautiful bokeh, while minimizing the streaking effect of point light sources.
