If you have a firmware version prior to 1.11 (e.g. 1.0 or 1.10), you can update your firmware.
FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS
Click the download link at the bottom of this page to download the firmware archive file. Save this file on your computer's hard drive (e.g. save it to the desktop, which will make it easy to find after the download is complete).
The name of the download file is O3Ge111w.exe and it is a self-extracting file.
![]()
Double click the O3Ge111w.exe download file to expand it. You will see the following dialogue box:

Click the OK button. This will create a folder on your C drive called O3Ge111w.

If you go into your C drive and double click the O3Ge111w folder to open it, you will find two files. The first file is called fwdc106p.bin (indicated by the red arrow) and it is the actual firmware update file. The second file is a readme text document with instructions similar to this page.

You must copy the fwdc106p.bin file to your camera's Compactflash card. When you connect the camera directly to your computer (or if you use a Compactflash reader), the Compactflash card appears as a removable disk drive in the My Computer window.
Open the removable disk drive, and open the O3Ge111w folder from your C drive, then position the two windows side-by-side.
Drag the fwdc106p.bin file from the O3Ge111w window to your removable disk window. You must put the fwdc106p.bin file directly onto the removable disk; it cannot be in any sub-folders. It must be on the top (or root) level of the removable disk.
This will copy the firmware update file to the removable disk as shown below.

Now that you have copied the firmware update file to your camera's Compactflash card, make sure your camera is turned off and disconnected from the computer. Make sure that the Compactflash card containing the firmware update file is inserted into your camera. Also, make sure you that you have adequate power in your camera. We recommend you use a Pentax AC adapter to perform the firmware update, but if you do not have a Pentax AC adapter, make certain that your batteries have a full charge.
To begin the update, turn your camera on while holding down the MENU button. If you have followed the above instructions precisely, you will see the program update screen. Select YES using your camera's 4-way controller, then press your camera's OK button.
When finished, you will see COMPLETE on your LCD screen. Turn the camera off and remove the Compactflash card.
With the Compactflash card removed from the camera, check your firmware version by turning the camera back on while holding down the MENU button. If you see v. 1.11, then you have successfully updated your camera. Before you begin to take pictures again, be sure to format your Compactflash card to erase the firmware update file.

With a new Optio S, 33L, or 330GS, you will receive a CD-ROM with USB drivers. These drivers, when properly installed, allow your Windows computer to see your camera as a disk drive, allowing you to download your images. However, if you do not have your CD-ROM, for whatever reason, you can download the USB drivers from this page.
INSTRUCTIONS
You must download and install these drivers before you attempt to connect your camera to your Windows computer. Download the opt_slg _usb.exe self-extracting driver file and save it on your computer's hard drive (the download link is at the bottom of this page). In the opt_slg_usb folder, double click the setup.exe icon, circled below, (it might just be called setup) to begin the installation of your USB drivers.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation of your USB drivers.
After you finish installing your USB drivers, you can connect the camera to the computer with your USB cable. The computer will then see the camera as a new removable disk drive in the My Computer window.
OPTIO S, 33L, 330GS USB DRIVERS FOR MACOS 8.6

However, OS 8.6 needs a little help in the way of Pentax-supplied USB drivers. If you do not have your CD-ROM, for whatever reason, you can download the USB drivers from this page.
INSTRUCTIONS
You must download and install these drivers before you attempt to connect your camera to your Mac. Download the SLG USB Driver.sea.hqx file, and save it on your computer's hard drive. It is a self-extracting stuffed file.

Double click to open the SLG USB Driver folder.

Double click the PentaxDrvInstall6(E) file to install the USB drivers.

When the drivers are finished installing, a message will ask you to restart your computer.
