This is a minor firmware update for the Optio 450 camera that improves image quality for longer exposure times (i.e. exposures in excess of 1.3 seconds).
You may wish to print this page, so you can have these instructions as a handy reference when you begin your update. Also, have your camera ready and standing by with a blank SD card. Finally, be sure your battery has a fresh and complete charge before you begin your update. If you own an optional Pentax AC adapter for your camera, we recommend you use it. If you run out of power during the update process, you may damage your camera.

Instructions:
1. Click the download link at the bottom of the page, and SAVE the fwdc108p.bin update file on your computer's hard drive.
2. With your SD card in the camera, connect your camera to the computer. Alternatively, if you use an SD card reader, place your SD memory card into the reader.
3. On a Windows or Macintosh computer, the camera (or the SD card in a card reader) connects as a removable disk drive. You can access it from the My Computer window (in Windows) or right from your desktop (in MacOS).

4. Drag the update file from your computer's hard drive and drop it onto your camera's SD card to copy the file from your computer to the camera's memory card. The file must be copied to the root directory of your SD card. In other words, do not put the update file inside of a folder on your SD card; it must be at the top level.
Notice below that the fwdc108p.bin file is now on the removable disk, but it is not inside any folders.

5. Once you have copied the firmware update file to your camera's SD card, turn your camera off and disconnect it from the computer.
6. Your camera should now be turned off and disconnected from the computer. The SD card should now have the firmware update file on it, and it should be inside your camera. You are now ready to update your camera.
7. Press your camera's MENU button, and while holding the MENU button down, turn your camera on. This will activate the firmware installation process. The camera will then ask you if you want to update. Select YES and then press your OK button. You will see the message now loading on your camera's LCD display.
8. When the firmware update is finished, your camera's LCD screen will say complete. Turn your camera off then back on normally. Then, format your SD card using the camera's FORMAT command (found in the SET-UP menu). This will erase any leftover files from the card. Once the SD card is erased, you can check your current firmware version by turning on your camera while holding down the MENU button.
These instructions will guide you through the process of installing the USB drivers for the Optio 450 or 550 camera on a Windows 98 or Windows 98SE computer.
Note:
Other operating systems such as Windows XP, ME, 2000, and MacOS (8.6 and later) will automatically sense the connection of the Optio 450/550 camera and load their own built-in mass storage drivers.
Windows Download Instructions:
1. Download and install these drivers before you attempt to connect your camera to your Windows computer.
2. Download the optio_x1.exe self-extracting driver file and save it on your computer's hard drive:
Installation Instructions:
1. Make sure you have a memory card in your camera, then connect your camera to the computer with the USB cable.
Note:
While you can generally use any USB port on your computer, including a powered hub, if you run into any connection problems then make sure to try a USB port on the back of your computer that is connected directly to your motherboard.
2. Turn your camera on (you can be in any mode).
3. Your computer will automatically detect the camera as new hardware, and start a New Hardware Wizard to help you find the needed drivers.
4. Place the selection dot by the Wizard's recommended option if it is not already there.
Click Next
5. Place a checkmark by Specify a location: and type c:optio_x1 without the quotes into the location field. This will instruct the Wizard to look for the driver files in the location to which you unzipped them earlier.
Click Next
6. The Wizard will do a quick search and tell you that it has found the needed drivers.
Click Next
7. Now, the Wizard will complete the first part of the installation.
Click FINISH
8. The Wizard will now run the second part of the installation.
Click Next
9. Place the selection dot is by the Wizard's recommended option if it is not already there.
Click Next
10. The Wizard should still show a checkmark by Specify a location: and c:optio_x1 without the quotes should still be in the location field.
Click Next
11.The Wizard will do another quick search and tell you that it has found the needed drivers.
Click Next
12. Now, the Wizard will complete the final part of the installation.
Click Finish
13. You're done! You can now find your camera as a removable disk drive in the My Computer window.
