OPTIO SV FIRMWARE UPDATE V.1.01

CHANGES:
  • Corrected an issue during interval shooting, where exposure may not be accurate under certain lighting conditions.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Please click the download link at the bottom of this page, and save the download file sv_e101w.exe to your Desktop.

  2. Double click the sv_e101w.exe file to decompress it. Click the OK button.

  3. You will now see the following expanded files:

Note that the FWDC127P.BIN file, circled above, is the firmware update. The README.TXT file contains instructions, similar to this page, which you may want to review.

  4. Connect your Optio SV camera to the computer according to the instructions in the PC Connection Manual. The camera will become a removable disk drive in the My Computer window. Copy the FWDC127P.BIN file to the camera's removable disk drive.

  5. You will now have the FWDC127P.BIN firmware file on the removable disk, which is the camera's memory. Note that the FWDC127P.BIN file should be on the top or root level of the removable disk drive as shown below. That is, it cannot be located inside of any sub-folders on the removable disk.

  6. Now, disconnect your camera from the computer. You are ready to install the firmware update. For these next steps, we strongly recommend the use of an optional AC adapter or a fully charged camera battery.

  7. Press your camera's MENU button, and while holding down the MENU button, turn the camera on. Once your camera turns on and displays text on the LCD screen, you can release the MENU button.

  8. You will see the following text displayed on your LCD screen:

    Read complete.
    Version 1.01 OK?
    YES
    NO

Use your four-way controller to select YES, and then press your OK button.

  9. You will see the following text as the firmware loads:

    Read complete.
    Version 1.01
    Update start.
    Never turn off.

At this point, be very careful not to turn your camera off or interrupt power to your camera. The update process will take approximately a minute to complete.

  10. When the update is complete, you will see Update end on the screen. Now, you must remove your battery from the camera, then reinsert the battery after a few seconds.

  11. Now, press your camera's FN button, and while holding down the FN button, turn the camera on. You will see the following text:

    User setting clear
    OK?

  12. Press your OK button. You will now see your initial camera configuration screen, which you can set according to your preference.

  13. Be sure to format your camera's memory to erase the firmware file before taking any pictures. You're finished, congratulations.

MACINTOSH USERS can follow this same process after clicking on the Macintosh download link below.

  • Download and save the Macintosh download file.
  • Double click it, to decompress it with your Stuffit expander program.
  • Connect the camera to the computer.
  • Copy the firmware file (FWDC127P.BIN) to your camera's memory, then disconnect the camera from the computer.
  • Proceed with the installation of the firmware as outlined above.

USB DRIVER DOWNLOAD FOR OPTIO SV

With your new camera you will receive a CD-ROM (S-SW23) with USB drivers for Windows 98. These drivers, when properly installed, allow your computer to see your camera as a disk drive, allowing you to download your images. However, if you do not have your CD-ROM, for whatever reason, you can download the USB drivers from this page.

PLEASE NOTE: These are Windows 98 drivers only. Most recent versions of Windows and MacOS will automatically recognize your camera as a disk drive when you connect it to your computer. If your computer does not have Windows 98, you may see an error message during installation (see below for details). You only need to download and install Pentax-supplied drivers for Windows 98.

INSTRUCTIONS

You must download and install these drivers before you attempt to connect your camera to your Windows 98 computer.

  1. Download the usbsw23.exe self-extracting driver file and save it on your computer's hard drive (the download link is at the bottom of this page). The desktop is a good place to save it where you can easily find it.

  2. Double click the usbsw23.exe file to extract its contents.

Click UNZIP to complete the extraction.

This alert will tell you when the extraction is complete. Click OK, then close the Self-Extractor window by clicking the CLOSE button.

  3. Now, you will have a folder on your C: drive called usbsw23 as shown below.

Double click the usbsw23 folder to open it.

  4. In the usbsw23 folder, double click the Setup.exe icon, circled below, (it might just be called Setup) to begin the installation of your USB drivers.

  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation of your USB drivers.

PLEASE NOTE: These are Windows 98 drivers only. If your computer does not have Windows 98, you may see the following error message, and you will not be able to complete the installation:

Remember, most recent versions of Windows and MacOS will automatically recognize your camera as a disk drive when you connect it to your computer. You only need to download and install Pentax-supplied drivers for Windows 98.

  6. Upon successful installation of your USB drivers, you can connect the camera directly to the computer with your USB cable. The computer will then see the camera as a new removable disk drive in the My Computer window.
